IELTS Speaking Practice Set: Travel and Journeys

This is a practice question set for all three parts of the IELTS Speaking test, focusing on the theme of Travel and Journeys.

Part 1 takes approximately 4-5 minutes, Part 2 lasts 3-4 minutes, and Part 3 is about 4-5 minutes long.

Part 1: Interview-style Questions

1. Do you enjoy traveling? Why or why not?

2. What’s your favorite mode of transportation for long journeys?

3. Have you ever been on a trip that didn’t go as planned? What happened?

4. Where would you like to travel in the future?

5. How do you usually prepare for a trip?

Note: The examiner may ask follow-up questions based on your responses.

Part 2: Individual Long Turn

Describe a memorable journey you have taken.

You should say:

Where you went

Who you traveled with

What mode of transportation you used

Why this journey was memorable

You will have 1 minute to prepare your answer, and you should speak for 1-2 minutes.

Part 3: Discussion Questions

1. How has technology changed the way people travel?

2. What are some potential drawbacks of mass tourism on local communities?

3. Do you think virtual reality could ever replace physical travel? Why or why not?

4. How might climate change affect travel and tourism in the future?

5. In what ways can travel broaden a person’s perspective?

6. Should governments invest more in promoting domestic tourism or international tourism? Why?
