This is a practice question for IELTS Writing Task 2.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task and write at least 250 words.

Write about the following topic:

Some people believe that the globalization of food culture has led to the loss of traditional cooking methods and local cuisines. Others argue that it has enriched culinary experiences and promoted cultural exchange.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer Outline Mind Map:

Introduction

You should briefly introduce the topic of food globalization and state that there are differing opinions on its impact.

Also, provide a thesis statement outlining your position.

Main Body Paragraph 1

You may discuss the view that globalization leads to loss of traditional cooking and local cuisines and provide examples and explain the reasoning behind this perspective.

Main Body Paragraph 2

You might present the opposing view that globalization enriches culinary experiences and offer examples of how cultural exchange has benefited food culture.

Main Body Paragraph 3 (Optional)

You can discuss potential ways to balance globalization with preservation of traditional cuisines.

Conclusion

You should summarize the main points and restate your opinion on the issue.
